Just a couple of thrifty tips that either I or someone in my family has used.
Tip 1
Have you ever moved a piece of furniture and had an indentation in the carpet from where the legs were? What happens is the carpet and padding have gotten compressed over time due to the pressure from the furniture. Now you can get these to come up with a steam cleaner or you can simply place an ice cube in each of the indentations. The compressed material soaks up the water and expands. When it dries no more indentation.
Tip 2
Salt can be a wonderful tool for cleaning.
- A good paste of salt and vinegar can take the tarnish off of brass or copper.
- Salt works great for spills on carpets. After you have blotted up the spill (apparently you are never supposed to rub) you can cover the remainder with salt and it will soak up the majority of the stain.
- And you can soak washable fabrics in salt water to help remove stubborn stains.
For all cleaning purposes use plain salt not iodized
A lot of times there are simple and inexpensive solutions to problems around the house. I hope these tips inspire you to find those solutions instead of going out and spending money on the newest, latest, greatest, and budget busting solution that is on the market.
