Christmas Saving Story

When I was growing up the weekend after Thanksgiving was always set aside for getting a Christmas tree. As a family we would pile in the car drive, to a Christmas tree farm, and wander the isles of trees looking for one that was good enough. It always took forever and I have recently submitted the paper work to my state legislature to have this listed as cruel and unusual punishment.

Once I got married I thought I could finally get a fake tree and only have to set it up every year instead of going out, looking for a tree, and hauling it home. Unfortunately, my wife loves live Christmas trees. So, for the last three years we have gotten a live Christmas tree. This year was different than the other two. We were so busy we didn't have time to go shopping for a tree so we waited until yesterday to buy one. Much to my joy the tree's at the local Lowe's had been dropped in price; to FIVE DOLLARS A TREE!! Now we weren't able to get as large of a tree as we usually do but the one we purchased is in good shape and looks nothing like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree.  Next year, if I can't sway my better half toward a fake tree, we will be purchasing our fire hazard, err, Christmas tree less than five days before Christmas.

  • Oh, not right before Christmas, buy it in January this year. I got mine (8 ft - prelit) in April a couple of years ago and stored it while we were building our house. I love it. It saves so much time and it cost me $40. That's right. Kmart had tons of them and I got it in April for $40. I wouldn't wait until April if I knew I needed one. A few days after Christmas this year you should be able to get one for cheap!

  • I am talking about a live Christmas tree. I will be looking at fake ones after Christmas but for now I am caving to my wife's desires to have a live tree.
