The cost of generic drugs has dropped dramatically over the last few years. The best part is that almost everyone has gotten into the act. You can now get generic prescriptions for as little as $3.33 for a months supply. Now most people attribute the cheap generics craze to Wal-Mart, but the truth is that K-Mart started it all with $5 generics.
If you have not been able to find a generic form of your specific prescription make sure to check out RXaminer.com. This site can tell you if a generic form of your script exists or if there is an alternative medication that costs less.
Each link in the list below will take you to that retailers page for prescriptions. There will be a link there that lets you know which generics are available for the big discount.
Publix - This is the only regional retailer on the list. I had to include them because they will actually give away for FREE (my favorite word) 14 day supplies of specific oral antibiotics. So next time your doctor prescribes an antibiotic see if they can give you something off the Publix list.
K-Mart - Once again I have to give K-Mart props for getting this all started. Prices are $5 for 30-day supply and $10-$15 for a 90-day supply - over 500 medications available
Wal-Mart - 30-Day - $4, 90-Day - $10 - 358 medications available + has additional program for some common drugs at $9 for 30-day supply
Target - 30-Day - $4, 90-Day - $10 - 300 medications available
Kroger - 30-Day - $4, 90-Day - $10 - over 300 medications available (Kroger Co. has multiple branded grocery stores so may go under another name)
CVS - 90-Day - $10 + $10 annual enrollment - over 400 medications available
Walgreen's - 90-Day $12 - over 400 medications available
Rite Aid - 30-Day - $9, 90-Day - $16 - over 500 medications available
