When Someone Does Not Provide Service

My buddy Joe Sangl reminded me yesterday of a premise that so many people forget, “If someone is providing you a service and they fail to live up to reasonable expectaions under the circumstance you should get a deal.”

We were flying back from Kansas City and were in the Atlanta, Ga airport. Our final flight home was delayed and then it was canceled. It was obvious that they canceled the flight because there were too few passengers. This greatly inconvenienced us because Joe had to be at another city later in the day to deliver the Financial Learning Experience.

What eventually transpired is that the next flight the put us on was also delayed so instead of taking a chance of missing the speaking engagement we had to hitch a ride with my brother, Black Sheep (he may not be great at saving money but he is a great brother). Black sheep drove Joe to Columbia, SC where he met another member of our team and rode off to Florence and then took me back to my home before driving another 3.5 hours back to his house ( a total of 8.5 hours of driving). However, before we left the airport Joe demanded to be compensated for the inconvenience and cost that Delta had caused him. By doing so he received an extra $100 credit toward the next time we fly Delta.

So the next time someone does not live up to their end of the deal make sure to talk to someone who can make it right. I saw way too many people just sit in the airport and take it instead of making Delta act correctly.

Entertainment Book 2010

I just got my 2010 Entertainment Book in the mail. This is a normal time for me to purchase one of these books because I won’t use the book in December and January so it makes sense for me to wait until they go on sale.

The Entertainment Book is a nationally run coupon book that is comprised of both national and local coupons. It has a few categories but the two that I focus on are dining and entertainment. With both of these categories the Entertainment Book basically becomes my date night deal book for when my wife and I go out. The reason is that a majority of the deals are buy on get one deals or a percentage off given that you spend a specific amount. For example:

My wife and I decide we need a night out so we go to the Entertainment Book and see that we can go to the local mexican restaurant and get one entree free when we buy an entree of equal or greater value. We also find a coupon for a discount at the local movie theatre but decide to go bowling because the coupon for AMF is buy one game get one free.

As you can see we cut the cost of our date in half by using the Entertainment Book. What is nice is that there are a good number of the national coupons so when we travel the book is good and when we are at home it is even better.

As I flipped through the dining section I saw coupons for everything from fine dining to fast food and ice cream. In the entertainment section the selection was huge with coupons on martial arts classes, skate parks, cultural events, and much more. There are also coupons for travel and retail deals.

Overall this is one of my favorite purchases to help me save money throughout the year. The regular price is $35 but right now they are on sale for 40% off making the Entertainment Book only $21.

Earnings Update – Swagbucks.com

It has been nine months since I have done any earnings updates so I figured it was about time. Swagbucks has been a real winner with me personally earning 272 swagbucks from my own searches in the last nine months. This is enough for $30 worth of Amazon.com gift cards or about one $5 gift card every 45 days. Not a bad return for just using a different search engine.

The real return in Swagbucks is when you refer people. Now I have this website to refer people so I am going to use my wife as an example of what happens when you refer people when you get the chance. Since opening her account three and a half years ago my wife has earned an extra 1007 swagbucks by referring just 32 friends and family to use the site. To put that in real terms that is an extra $110 (about 30 dollars per year) she earned for just mentioning it to friends and sending an e-mail. So if you don’t have a Swagbucks account sign up here because you are missing out on the free money and because I need a few more referalls.
