Have you ever gone down the frozen foods isle and looked at the amazing number of frozen pizza brands? There has to be at least 20. The reason there are so many is the food companies make a fortune off of frozen pizza and half of them taste only a little better than cardboard.
Frozen pizza can really be broken down into two categories:
- Expensive with a rising crust and decent toppings
- Cheap but with little taste, nasty crust, and a great possibility for indigestion
The reason people buy frozen pizzas is that they like pizza and ordering out is too expensive. I, on the other hand, have not purchased a frozen pizza in a long time because I consider them a complete waste of money. I can make a pizza at home for only $2.50 or I can order one from Little Caesars for $5 (one topping hot and ready!). Since the obvious question is "how do you make a pizza for only $2.50?" here is how I do it:
- 1 instant pizza crust = $0.89
- 1/3 jar pizza sauce = $0.33
- 4 oz mozzarella cheese = $1.00
- Extra ingredients (flour and corn meal) = $0.20
Total = $2.42
To make this a large pizza add twice the water the back of the crust mix calls for and then add equal parts flour and cornmeal until you get a good workable crust. Roll the crust out, add the sauce and toppings, cook in oven for approx. 10 minutes and you have a great pizza that tastes much better than the frozen ones. Now you can add pepperoni to this for about 41 cents more but that takes you over $2.50 and I don't know that my heart can take the extra expenditure. You go ahead and add that stuff at your own risk.

I enjoy eating pizza....but my concern is that I'm an expensive man. By the time I drive to Bilo and realize that I have to turn around and go to Bloom because they don't sell an instant pizza crust i've already racked up $8.27 worth of gas and 1 hour and 38 minutes of my time. I figure I'm worth about 20 dollars an hour and ad that to the already $8.27 and I'm into a chunk of money. All I want is to sit on my couch and watch my big screen while I wait on my $6.99 frozen pizza, courtesy of Dijourno, to be done just the way I like it. Also, it takes me 22 minutes round trip to go to Little Ceaser's and by the time I get home I'm eating cold cheap pizza.
Let me have my Frozen Pizza...
