Every once in a while I have people send me tips on ways to save money. These two tips came from one person who didn't give me a name to give them credit and I don't think they want me posting their e-mail address. Anyway, thanks whoever you are.
Homemade Fire Starters
I make my own fire starters to use when starting a fire in our
fireplace and also for when we burn trash.
I save lint from the dryer. (since I also line dry, I also have
a couple other people who save their lint for me as well--and YES
they think I am crazy for asking for it). I then take the lint
and stuff it into TP and papertowel tubes. They are easy to
light and start a fire easily! It usually only takes one strike of
a match to get them burning. You can also put used kleenex or
papertowls into the tubes as well.
If I take the fire tubes on a camping trip, I sometimes dip the
ends of the filled tubes into melted wax to seal. This keeps the
lint from falling out.
(The melted wax is from crayon bits and leftovers from candles
that I just melt in our candle warmer)
Use Cereal Liner as Wax Pape
I don't use very much waxed paper-usually just for crafts or to
make hamburgers on for the grill, so I don't like buying it.
What I have been doing is saving the wax coated bags inside the
cereal boxes. When I do need wax paper, I just grab one of those
bags out of the drawer. Saves me several dollars a year.
