With Amazon already cutting 80% off Christmas items I thought it smart to highlight other stores that do drastic clearance on Holiday items and decorations.
For bricks and mortar stores Target is hands down the biggest discounter. Target has a great clearance policy on every day items (to learn more about their every day clearance check out my earlier post), but has an amazing clearance policy on Holiday and Seasonal items. The way it works is they start with 15% off. The discounts will then progress to 30%, 50%, 75%, and eventually 90% off. This progression can happen very quickly depending on the stock of each store. The more holiday items that are left over the faster they will discount in order to clear the shelves and warehouse space. Now when the discount hits 90% most of the stuff has been pillaged (and when you see what the holiday aisle looks like you will understand why I use that word) so I recommend starting to check what is left at the 50% mark. My strategy has been to check the aisle every other day until there are less than four of an item that I am looking to purchase. At three or less there is a good chance it will not be there the next time I check the aisle. Most times decorations and items that can be used year after year will go early while candy and perishables will many times last until 75% or 90% off.
