I have a small SEP-IRA savings account at Bank Of America...still doesn't pay any interest to speak of...I only opened it one year for convenience because I have a number of other accounts at BofA and an IRA at their linked Merrill relationship...2 questions: 1) Do you know if I'm able to invest in mutual fund families like Fidelity, Vangard, etc. through the Merrill IRA, or do I have to go to the mutual fund families directly, outside of Merrill?
2) What online bank will open a SEP-IRA hi-yield savings account or CD? I just opened a regular IRA at Synchrony for the currently attractive rates they have, but they won't do a SEP-IRA.

Yes you can open a SEP at a bank. The only downside to that is you are locked into only the options that the bank offers. So you will only be offered products like CDs and Money Market accounts. Your best bet is a brokerage or robo-advisor.
