I worked in an office where the more highly paid people brought their lunches and snacks. The lowest paid employees went out to lunch, ordered in, or used the vending machines. The important point about friends and net-working is that not all good jobs are posted. I volunteer a lot, and sometimes I hear of jobs where I volunteer. If I know someone who is qualified, I tell them to submit a resume. My daughter in law does the same thing. It is easier to find a better job when you have a job, any job, than when you are long term unemployed.
