Bevel offers a wide range of shaving products to help African American men overcome the issues they commonly face when shaving.

This innovative, wet-shaving starter kit can help tackle razor bumps, inflammation, and coarse hair. Our review will look at the kit, what it contains, how it works, and its pros and cons.

How Does Bevel Work?

bevel shave reviewThe central product of the Bevel shaving kit and entire product line is their revolutionary safety razor, with its relatively heavy weight and durable metal design.

The razor consists of a handle and a head; the head has two halves, namely the cap that goes on top and the base plate that connects directly to the handle. The kit consists of six products, namely the safety razor, priming oil, shaving brush, shaving cream, the blade, and restoring balm.

The handle screws through the base plate and has a thread that connects to the cap. When you unscrew the handle, the cap and base plate will automatically come apart so that you can insert a two-sided razor blade between them.

The cap has three progs that match the hole profile of most two-sided razor blades. When assembling your razor or replacing a blade, place the cap upside down in front of you or your palm with the prongs showing upward.

Then put the blade on the cap before securing the base plate on the blade by screwing in the handle. The blade should be sandwiched between the cap and the base plate. Before you start shaving, prepare your skin by taking a warm shower or placing a warm towel on your face to soften the hair. Apply a few drops of priming oil before applying the shaving cream to your face.

Rinse your shaving brush thoroughly before use to get rid of any residue stuck between the bristles.

Pricing

Bevel’s kit is available in stores at around $135, but you can purchase it directly from their website for $89.95. You can also subscribe to Bevel and pay for the kit in three monthly installments of $29.95, which amount to the same price as the listing.

You can purchase all the items in the kit separately from Bevel’s online store and pay with any major credit card or AMEX Express Checkout. All subscriptions are auto-renewed.

Other products that Bevel has available include a skincare bundle for $34.95. This bundle consists of a face wash, gel, and an exfoliating toner. When purchased separately, the face wash costs $11.95, the moisturizing face gel costs $13.95, and the exfoliating toner costs $13.95. You can also buy a spot corrector for $15.95.

If you want to put your own kit together, you have to pay $49.95 for the razor, $9.99 for 20 twenty blades, $29.99 for the shaving brush, and $14.95 for the shaving cream. When bought separately, the restoring balm costs $14.95. If you have a full beard, you can add beard balm to your collection for $11.95.

If you prefer a trimmer to a safety razor, Bevel has a high-quality one available with a contemporary design for $199.95. With the Bevel trimmer, you can purchase an additional T-blade for $34.95 or a square blade for $29.95.

Products Available

As aforementioned, this kit includes the safety razor, priming oil, shaving brush, shaving cream, the blade, and restoring balm.

The metal razor features a smooth handle and rectangular head. The priming oil is specially formulated to moisturize the skin and soften the hair. The oil forms a protective layer over the surface, protecting it from the abrasion of the blade and preventing inflammation.

The high-quality shaving brush included in the kit is designed to lift your whiskers so that you can achieve a close, smooth shave. The brush works exceptionally well with the shaving cream; this cream works with the oil to moisturize the skin, lift the hair, and protect the skin against blade friction.

The high-quality, long-lasting blade included with the kit is sharp enough to prevent tugging and skin irritation. When used with the oil and shaving cream, the blade glides smoothly and effortlessly over your skin with minimal abrasion.

When you are done shaving, apply the carefully formulated Bevel restoring balm to prevent dryness and irritation.

Company History

Bevel was founded in 2013 by CEO Tristan Walker, a Foursquare alum. Tristan started Bevel to cater to the shaving and skincare needs of African American men, who typically face a number of unique issues when shaving.

Since the company was founded, Bevel achieved a 95% customer loyalty rate, and its products were backed by several high-profile celebrities, including Nas, Magic Johnson, and John Legend. The Bevel products are available in Target stores throughout the United States.

Alternatives

While Bevel is the only service that focuses on black Americans, they are one of many monthly shave clubs. These are three of their top competitors:

Billie – Custom razor service for women.

Birchbox – Top of the line shaving and skin care products.

Gillette on Demand – Razors shipped to your home from the top name in shaving.

Pros

  • The safety razor has a durable and ergonomic metal construction
  • The sharp razor blades allow for a smooth shave without friction
  • The restoring balm moisturizes the skin and prevents dryness
  • All products work together to avoid ingrown hairs and shaving bumps
  • The face wash, balm, oil, and shaving creams have fresh fragrances that complement each other

Cons

  • The Bevel product line is expensive in comparison with similar products
  • The safety razor doesn’t come with a stand
  • Facial products tend to deplete rapidly

Bevel Review Final Thoughts

Bevel not only focuses on high-quality razors that are easy and comfortable to use but also provides face wash, facial gels, spot correctors, toners, oils, and balms that softens hair and moisturizes.
