Kohl’s shopping is one of my favorite methods for buying clothes.  The discounts are as good as anywhere you can shop.kohls shopping coupons and discounts hacks

The key is knowing all the amazing ways that Kohl’s gives you to save money in-store and online.  Here are my 25 favorite Kohl’s shopping hacks that use discounts and coupons.

$48 Will Do for Kohl’s Cash

Kohl’s is famous for dishing out $10 in store credit for every $50 that you spend.  What most people don’t know is that under store policy you can spend just $48 and they will still give you the store credit we all crave.  This only applies during Kohl’s Cash earning periods and after ALL discounts are applied.

Shop During the Power Hours

Power hour specials are available in-store and online and they usually come around twice a month.  With these specials you will save an additional 10%-25% off already discounted prices.  The specials run from 3PM on Friday to 1 PM on Saturday.  This gives both night owls and early risers the chance to shop during their preferred hours.

Focus on the Clearance Items

Koh’s Clearance goes from 60% up to as much as 90% off.  Head to the Clearance section on the Kohl’s website to see what is discounted right now.  What is even better is that your coupons can be used on clearance items.

Get the Kohl’s Card

I am not a big fan of credit cards, but the Kohl’s card brings more promotional savings than any card except for maybe the Target credit card.  You are going to get card holder specific savings and they can be big money savers.

Ask For More

If you don’t have any current coupons in hand, ask the cashier if they have any extras. Many times they will have a stack of extra coupons sitting right there to help you out.

Yes2You Rewards

Kohl’s has their own rewards program.  With Yes2You rewards you get $5 back for every $100 you spend no matter how you pay.

Make Sure to Check Out Today’s Deals

Kohl’s will typically puts out their new coupons and codes on Wednesdays and Fridays.  Every once in a while they will throw a random one out on Sundays.  You can check out these deals anytime when you hit the Todays Deals page featured at the top of every page.

Download the App

Kohl’s has really put together a really nice app.  You can store your Kohl’s cash and coupons in the virtual wallet.  It also keeps track of your Yes2You rewards.

Look for the Codes

Kohl’s uses LCD price tags all over the store.  If you pay careful attention to these digital price tags you will notice these symbols:

  • Square – item that has reached its lowest sale price. The only way it is going lower than that is if it goes on clearance.
  • GV – Limited time price drop
  • S – Indicates a short term sale. Usually one to two weeks.
  • NM – Item will be marked down again shortly. Usually that night.
  • BGH – Buy one get one half off
  • BB – Bonus Buy
  • PP – The discounted price is fixed and does not work as a percent off.

Mail-In For More Savings

Kohl’s makes sure that you get even more savings with Kohl’s and manufacturer’s mail-in rebates.  These can be cash back, Kohl’s store credit, prepaid visa cards, and various other awesome offers. What is even better is they list all the current mail-in rebate offers HERE.

Price Match Other Local Stores

If you can get a competitors ad and walk into the store with it, Kohl’s will make it happen.  This is only works with competitors that have a bricks and mortar location.  So online sites like Newegg and Ebay do not count.  Here are the rules for your price matching:

  • No Wholesale Clubs
  • No price matching with the Kohls.com website
  • Has to be sold through the retailer (Best Buy has different vendors on their site for example)
  • If you have a coupon you can only get a total 15%. EX – Competitor price + coupon = Total of 15% off.  If the entire coupon value would make it less than 15% off you are better off just using the coupon with the regular Kohl’s price.
  • You have to have the ad.
  • You can still use Kohl’s Cash
  • If you want to match a competitor website then pull it up on your smartphone.  It will be up to a manager to decide if they will match.
  • If you are trying to match an online item with the Kohl’s website send the links (competitor website/Kohl’s website) to the item using the Contact Form.
  • No matching for clearance pricing or BOGOs

Price Guarantee

You have two weeks to find a lower price than the one you received either at Kohl’s or with a competitor.  Even if you used coupons and Kohl’s cash they will give you the difference between the original prices back.

Wedding Registry Rewards

Kohl’s rewards you for registering at their store.  They give you 10% back in store credit for any purchases made off of your wedding registry.  They call it Every After Rewards and it is an amazing deal for anyone just starting out their new life together.

On top of that, any item that was on your registry that did not get purchased, you get 15% off when you come back to complete your registry.

Shop On Your Birthday

Yes2You Rewards members will get a special discount offer on their birthdays.  So make sure your family gives you Kohl’s gift cards for your presents.

Buy Discounted Gift Cards Online

Speaking of gift cards there are several sites out there that allow you to purchase gift cards at a discounted rate.  Cardpool is my favorite because they have some of the best selection.  Their Kohl’s gift cards are typically 9% off, so you can start with paying only of 91% of the full price.

If You are a Serious Shopper Put at Least $600 on Your Kohl’s Card

If you use your card enough during the year to spend $600 you will get put in the “Most Valuable Customer” club. These special customers get even more rewards and special promotions.

Ask for the Scratch-Off

During certain secret sales you get a chance to win an extra discount from 15%-30% off.

Senior Citizen Discounts

Anyone age 55 or older can get 15% off on Wednesdays.  This does not work with other promotions and some sale items.

Ignore the Right Items

The worst deals at Kohl’s tend to be fine jewelry, home décor, handbags, electronics, and women’s shoes. You are probably going to find better deals on these items at stores like T.J. Maxx or with the Target Clearance items.

Buy the right Items

The best prices and discounts at Kohl’s will be on kitchen appliance and apparel.  These should be your main focus, but always check out the clearance section for other items.

Shoot for 60% Off

Like most department stores Kohl’s will mark up their prices and then offer promotions to bring the price down. Getting 60% off the list price will make sure you are actually getting a good deal.

Use Cash Back Sites

Grab an extra 3% cash back when you sign up at one of the top cash back sites. MrRebates is my favorite sites because they tend to have the best percentage cashback.

Stack Your Coupons

When you shop on Kohls.com you can use up to four coupon codes. Here is how you can stack them:

  • You can only use one whole order coupon (ex. 20% off your entire purchase).
  • For department specific coupons you can use up to four (ex. 15% off children’s clothes or $10 off $30 of housewares).
  • One Free shipping coupon (because once it is free why would you need another?)
  • You can use up to four reward codes from Kohl’s Cash or Yes2You rewards.

Coupon Credit After Purchase

If you make a purchase and forgot your coupons you can show a cashier your receipt and your coupon to get the credit back. You can also do this through the contact form on Kohls.com for a web order. You just need your order number, the date of purchase and the promo code you missed.

Connect to the Store WiFi

If you connect to the in-store wifi they will give you a coupon to use that day from your smartphone.  Usually it is $10 off a $30 purchase or $5 off $25.  Once you connect to the wifi open up your Kohl’s app to get 10 Yes2You rewards points.

Pay With A Credit Card

If you use any credit card they will be able to look up the information on your receipt for up to one year.  This way if you lose a receipt and need it to get cash back you don’t have to worry.

Using these methods you can really kill it at Kohl’s.  If you know any other tips leave them in the comments or hit me up on twitter @SavingFreak.

I am a big fan of the clearance section and the coupons/Kohls Cash just makes it even better. Between Kohls and Target you shouldn’t have to pay full price for any consumer item that you can plan ahead for.

The tip around asking the cashier for coupons really does work. We do this all the time at a variety of stores, and you would be surprised how helpful the cashiers can be to save you a couple bucks. This works in stores like Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond, and grocery stores! You just need to work up a bit of courage :-).
