How Does Oui Shave Work?

oui shave reviewThe Oui Shave is a single-blade, rose gold razor that comes in luxury faux-marble packaging with included blades. The razor weight of 3.2 oz and the cross-hatched handle give this razor a high-quality feel and provide you with ample grip, even when it is wet.

Since the Oui Shave is a safety razor, the blade sticks out just enough to provide you with a smooth, comfortable shave. The protective metal housing covers the blade in a manner that prevents you from dragging the blade at a dangerous angle across your skin. The razor only uses one blade, but it is double-edged so one blade will last you longer.

The razor consists of three pieces if you don’t count the blade. These pieces include the handle, top of the blade housing, and base of the blade housing that connects to the handle. To change the blade, unscrew the handle from the bottom of the blade housing, and separate the top and base.

Next, drop the blade onto the top piece of the blade, so the pins of the razor fit into the blade holes. These blades are very sharp, so be careful not to cut yourself.

Next, place the bottom piece on top of the blade, so that the blade is sandwiched between the two parts of the metal housing. Then screw the handle into the head until it is securely tightened.

When shaving with the Oui Shave, spread a thin layer of shaving cream on your skin. While holding the razor at a thirty-degree angle, glide the blade against the grain of the hair.

Pricing

The Oui Shave safety razor is more expensive as compared to plastic razors, but you can use it for years while only changing out the blades. Over the long run, this razor can actually save you money.

The razor—along with ten high-quality, double-sided razor blades—costs $75. A new set of ten razor blades costs $11 per pack, but you can subscribe to Oui Shave’s recurring shipments, which will reduce the price per pack to $9.99.

Pricing for other available products include Neroli Shave Oil, which protects sensitive skin from the abrasion of shaving and costs $22 for 60 ml, and the Oui Shave Hydrating Bikini Line Mask, which costs $38. The treatment to get rid of ingrown hairs costs $38 for 50 pads.

The Oui Shave Shaving Creme costs $32 for 177 ml, which is a bit more expensive than the average price of shaving cream. The price is reasonable, however, when you consider that you need less cream per shave and that the product contains grapeseed moisturizer.

Products Available

With your Oui Shave razor, you will receive a pack of ten stainless steel blades that are made in Germany. These double-edged blades are paper-thin, individually wrapped, and packaged in a disposable plastic container.

After every six shaves, you should change the blade, as it will become dull and cause irritation. When you dispose of the blades, put them back into the disposable container, as they are quite sharp, and they can damage your refuse bag or can. You can order new blades from Oui Shave, but the razor is also compatible with regular two-sided blades.

The 6 oz Oui Shave Shaving Creme has a thick, creamy consistency that doesn’t run down your leg before you have the chance to shave, even when it gets wet.

The ingredients include organic aloe juice, argan oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and Roman chamomile, and the crème has a delicious and citrusy scent of blood orange and jasmine. The Oui Shave Creme not only prevents shaving irritation, but it also moisturizes your skin.

Other products that are available include the neroli shave oil that is paraben- and cruelty-free, a hydrating bio-cellulose mask for your bikini line, and the Oui Shave Ingrown Relief, to prevent the occurrence of ingrown hair.

Company History

Oui Shave is a New York City-based company that was founded in 2014 by Karen Young, who believed that women could have a superior shaving experience if they have the right tools. Currently, Oui Shave is in partnership with Urban Outfitters, which stocks the grooming products on their shelves.

Oui Shave is self-funded and saw a 250% growth in 2016 alone. The company has a focused product line that consists of their three razor styles, as well as their crème, oil, and ingrown relief serum.

Alternatives

There are many other monthly shave clubs out there.  Three of Oui Shave’s top competitors are:

Billie – One of the only shave clubs that only focuses on women.

Bevel – The only shave service focusing on African Americans.

Harry’s – One of the two largest online shave club options.

Pros

  • Beautiful rose gold safety razor
  • Allows for smooth shaving without irritation
  • Luxury feel with sufficient grip
  • Long lifespan
  • Compatible with other high-quality, stainless-steel blades
  • Lack of plastic components mean this is an environmentally-friendly option
  • No soggy soothing strips

Cons

  • The razor requires a unique shaving technique
  • May take some time getting used to
  • A risk for cuts when replacing razor blades

OUI Shave Review Final Thoughts

If a receiving a painless, smooth shave while being considerate of the environment is important to you, consider the ladies’ single-blade Oui Shave razor and accompanying high-end products.
