The furniture market has changed significantly, and there are more contenders than ever for the cheapest places to buy furniture.
To make it easier, we split the list of cheap furniture retailers into two groups, those with a physical in-person presence and online only.
To be clear, all of these stores give you the ability to purchase online, but many people like seeing their furniture in person before buying, so it made sense to split the list.

Cheapest In-Person Furniture Stores
The biggest advantage of visiting stores in person is that you can check on the quality of the furniture, and you can always shop online first to make sure they have what you want in stock before heading in.
There is no good way to put these stores in a first to worst order because so much depends on clearance and overstock pricing. Let’s say that you can find good deals on furniture at all of these options.
Big Lots
When it comes to buying cheap furniture, Big Lots has become one of my favorites. I have purchased both our living room furniture and bedroom mattress at Big Lots and have not complaints.
Big Lots has deals with mainline manufacturers to take their overstock and clearance items. That means you are still getting quality furniture but for a lot less.
Lane made our couch, and the mattress was Sealy. We saved a ton over what we would have paid at the full-price retailer.
Best For: Discount name brand furniture.
Pricing: Big Lots is an overstock-style store, so the prices are consistently low. If an item goes on clearance, the pricing is fantastic.
Shipping: Items that can ship through the FedEx network qualify for free shipping on orders over $59. Larger or heavier items can ship for a flat rate of $149 no matter how many items are part of the order.
You can pick up items in-store at no shipping charge.
Ikea
Ikea has furniture for every room in your home. Keeping on brand, much of it you have to assemble at home.
Some people consider shopping in the Ikea stores a fun experience, and the warehouse-size stores are enormous.
Best For: Sleek, modern look, and easy to take home or have shipped.
Pricing: Look for their big sales and clearance items. Anything you have to assemble can also be a good buy.
Shipping: Shipping varies depending on the size and weight of the items being shipped.
Kohl’s
I am a Kohl’s junkie. I love the Kohl’s clearance and sale items, and the Kohl’s Cash rewards are off the chain.
Best For: Affordable and up-to-date home basics.
Pricing: Clearance at Kohl’s goes up to 80% off. If you learn how to shop at Kohl’s, you can get clearance, a discount, and Kohl’s cashback in one transaction.
Shipping: Shipping is free for orders over $75. No exceptions, so furniture too!
Target
Target feels like the superstore version of Ikea. They have a big fanbase and offer competitive prices.
For many, their biggest draw is they aren’t Walmart. They have a great selection of furniture in-store and online, and the Target clearance policy is impressive.
Walmart
There is a surprising amount of furniture available at Walmart. While what you find in store can be limited, the website has an enormous selection to meet almost any need.
Pricing: It’s Walmart, so you can get the cheapest of the cheap up to very expensive
Shipping: Shipping is free for orders over $35. I didn’t see any sections on the website.
Cost Plus World Market
I used to love perusing all the stuff you can find in a World Market. Their furniture is from all over the world, giving it a lot of different styles and colors.
With bringing in international pieces, the prices may be out of some people’s price range.
Pricing: The everyday prices can get expensive, so make sure to hit their sale and clearance items.
Shipping: Shipping can get pricey but starts at $4.95.
BJ’s Wholesale
My first membership to a warehouse club was to BJ’s, and I quickly learned they had some of the best clearance. There are also many choices for items that look a lot nicer than the price tag indicates.
One perk is that you can shop online without a membership.
Pricing: Memberships are $55 a year, and there is a wide variety of furniture options.
Shipping: Free in-store pickup and shipping is included in most prices.
Costco
Costco has its own cult following and is the most popular of the big three warehouse clubs.
You can furnish your whole home from Costco.
Pricing: Memberships are $60 a year, and you will find way more to buy that furniture (meats are SO good).
Shipping: Free in-store pickup or get it shipped with pricing right as you buy.
Sams Club
Sam Walton didn’t want to let Costco control the warehouse club market, so he created Sam’s Club. They now have great deals on many items. This includes furniture.
Their clearance policy can make the prices of furniture very cheap.
Pricing: Memberships start at $45 a year. There is a $100 membership with more perks like cash rewards and free shipping.
Shipping: Free on most items for Plus members and free on some things for standard memberships. Check each item to see shipping terms.
Ashley Furniture Homestore
These stores are big and filled with furniture. They run outstanding sales so never buy something full price from this furniture store.
Pricing: It’s all over the map on pricing due to the massive sales they run.
Shipping: Free. It’s my favorite word.
Bed Bath & Beyond
Yes, you may feel like you are back shopping for your college dorm, but Bed Bath & Beyond has a wide selection of items. Plus, who can resist that 20% off coupon?
Pricing: Staying away from the inflatable furniture, pricing for living room stuff starts at $19.99.
Shipping: Free shipping for orders over $39 and in-store pickup for many items.
Lowe’s
Lowe’s is our $100 store. It’s hard to get my wife out of there without spending at least $100.
There is a surprising amount of furniture available in-store and on the website. They are most well known for their outdoor and patio furniture, which get’s really cheap in September sales.
Pricing: Regular prices aren’t exceptional, but their sales and clearance deals can be great.
Shipping: Free shipping on purchases of $45 or more for items weighing less than 150 lbs. Get $20 off truck delivery of larger items by using a Lowe’s card.
Home Depot
Like Lowe’s, Home Depot has big sales on outdoor furniture and a great selection of indoor items.
Pricing: Standard prices are nothing to get excited about, but clearance and sale items are worth checking out.
Shipping: Free shipping starts for purchases of $45 or more. Check each item for free shipping availability.
Ollie’s
Ollie’s is a bargain outlet store. They get their inventory from closeouts from other retailers and their own negotiated deals.
The inventory or cheap furniture is never consistent, but the deals are outstanding.
Pricing: I shop at Ollie’s for a variety of items. They are frequently 20% cheaper than standard Walmart prices.
Shipping: Ollie’s cannot sell online because everything is in-store dependent.
TJ Maxx/Homegoods
TJ Maxx and home goods are is part of a group of stores that collect closeout items and offer them below the original retail prices. The parent company is TJX and the stores include:
- Homegoods
- Homesense
- Marshalls
- Sierra
- TJ Maxx
Home goods and Home sense are the most on-point for finding cheaper furniture, but the other three have some furniture and home décor options in-store.
Shipping: Online shopping is not an option because the inventory is in-store dependent.
Bob’s Discount Furniture
Bob’s Discount Furniture is in 21 States and is a fixture in the Northeast United States. Bob’s is aimed at the low-cost market.
Pricing: The chain prides itself on straightforward low prices, but they have an “outlet” section that acts as their clearance.
Shipping: Bob’s offers free in-store pickup and delivery starts at $29.99 for threshold delivery and $59.99 for “white glove” delivery. The price goes up depending on how much money you spend.
Urban Outfitters
I tend to think of Urban outfitters as a store that sells clothing that I am no longer cool enough to wear (ask my kids). However, they have a rather large selection of furniture, and their discounts during sales and clearance events are legit.
Best For: Trendy furniture
Pricing: Furniture as low as $24
Shipping: Free for orders over $50 if the item can be shipped through standard mail shipping. Larger furniture items will be shipped via truck, and the prices will vary.
Nadeau
You will not get the least expensive furniture prices out there from Nadeau, but if you are looking for solid wood pieces with a unique feel, then the prices are competitive.
Pricing: Furniture as low as $24
Shipping: If the item can be shipped through standard mail, shipping is Free for orders over $50. Larger furniture items will be shipped via truck, and the prices will vary.
Local Closeout Stores
About 10 miles from my home is a furniture store called Jason’s. It looks terrible, but the prices are excellent.
They get their furniture from closeouts and overstock items at other furniture stores and pass the savings on to the consumer. These local stores are all over the country and can help you cut your furniture purchase cost.
Cheapest Online Only Furniture Stores
Amazon
Where would any discount list be without including Amazon.com
It feels like you can buy just about anything from this website. I am pretty sure I saw a black-market kidney on there one time.
There is just about every type of furniture here, and it is easy to compare prices with other retailers.
Best For: Black-market body parts
Pricing: Look for special buys and clearance items. Amazon will look to clear their warehouse if they are holding the inventory.
Shipping: Many pieces qualify for free shipping with a Prime Membership
Wayfair Companies
The Wayfair-owned websites have an extensive supply of furniture. The standard prices are not great, but they are known to slash prices on clearance and sale items.
The Wayfair companies include:
Best For: Deep discounts on sale and clearance items.
Pricing: Wayfair has a huge variety, so pricing will depend on the item you want. I have seen as much as 80% off.
Shipping: Many pieces qualify for free shipping over $35. If an item does not qualify, the shipping price will show up in the cart.
Dot & Bo
Dot & Bo is an excellent store for cheaper furniture where you can shop by style (and there are many styles). It’s great for people like me who are “stylistically challenged”.
Pricing: Standard pricing is not where to go with Dot & Bo. They have outstanding sales at different times on specific styles.
Shipping: They have many items that are free shipping. If shipping charges apply, they are clearly marked.
Hayneedle
Hayneedle does a great job of curating furniture groups for you and offers warehouse pricing.
Pricing: Hit their sale section for items that are worth your time.
Shipping: Free. My favorite word.
Lexmod
Lexmod is unique in that it sources all its furniture directly. Direct sourcing means that if your friends don’t know about this site, there is no chance they will have the same piece in their home.
Pricing: Many options here, but check out the sale section for the best pricing.
Shipping: Free, and they seem to be avoiding sales tax somehow.
Overstock
Overstock.com has some of the best commercials and has built a solid reputation as a discount website. Furniture is a significant part of their offerings.
Pricing: Overstock is chalked full of savings. Their sales and deals section has the best deals.
Shipping: I could not get a specific policy, but the 15 items I checked were all free shipping.
Apt2B
Furniture at Apt2B is more on the luxury side. If luxury items are a priority to you, then their outlet area is worth your time.
Pricing: The outlet has prices starting at $150. I told you they were higher.
Shipping: Shipping is free!
Sofamania
While Sofamania lives up to its name with sofas and chairs (I didn’t know some of these colors existed), they also have a decent inventory of cheap furniture for all rooms.
Pricing: Pricing is competitive across the site, but the clearance section is off the chain.
Shipping: FREE!
Holistic Habitat
Holistic Habitat is focused on accent furniture that is styled like luxury items. The good news is the prices aren’t styled like luxury items.
Pricing: There isn’t anything on the site that is more than $1,000
Shipping: $10 or free if you spend at least $125
Etsy
Etsy is a great marketplace for artisans to sell their wares. It also makes it a great way to pick up unique furniture and lower prices than you pay in retail stores.
Pricing: Pricing is going to vary widely. Your best bet is anyone getting started with sellers who are trying to make a name for themselves.
Shipping: Shipping is designated for each item you purchase.
Online Marketplaces
Online marketplaces are a fantastic way to get gently used furniture or heavily used furniture that you intend to refurbish.
We have purchased a ton of kids’ furniture from people whose children have outgrown it or moved out, most at less than 50% of what you would pay in the stores.
The most popular marketplaces to get cheap furniture are:
- Craigslist
- Facebook Marketplace
- Poshmark – Use Code “SAVINGFREAK” on signup to get a free $10 off your first purchase.
- Mercari
For Craigslist and Facebook, expect to meet the seller in person. Poshmark and Mercari are similar platforms and have shipping built into the buying experience.
Strategies for Finding Cheap Furniture
Sales
Furniture is notoriously over-priced for the cost of bringing to market.
If you have a specific piece of furniture that you want, then check similar items as they go on sale to see what you should be paying.
Not getting furniture on sale means you are handing your money over to the furniture store for no reason.
Clearance
Major retailers have to move inventory, or they go out of business. If a particular item isn’t moving fast enough, they will clearance them out to make room for faster-selling furniture.
Clearance items are a great way to get your furniture much cheaper, and some places allow you to add discounts to their clearance.
Online Rebate Sites
If you are shopping online and not using one of the rebate websites, you are leaving money missing out on anywhere from 1% to 25% cashback.
These sites allow you to get rewarded for shopping at your favorite retailers. My favorites include:
Cashback Credit Cards
I am a huge fan of cashback credit cards. I use the Fidelity Rewards Visa card that gets me 2% cashback no matter where I shop.
This card is great because I can deposit the money into my IRA and pay no taxes while saving for retirement.
Rewards Programs
There are a few stores on the list of cheapest furniture stores that offer rewards programs. For example, Big Lots will give you $50 on qualifying indoor and outdoor furniture purchases.
They also offer VIP shopping days for rewards members where you can get 20% off your purchases.
Final Thoughts
Furniture can be a major expense, and if you have children or pets buying it at a regular price should never be an option.
By searching through these cheap places to buy furniture and taking advantage of the sales, discounts and shopping experiences at each store, you can still get high-quality furniture at reasonable prices.
