Ways to Make $200 Fast
Sell Some Stuff
If you have stuff that is in decent condition that could fetch a reasonably high price, then there is not faster way to make $200 than to sell the things you do not need.
If it is something large that makes it hard to ship then I would list it on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. For smaller items, I would try Mercari where you can sell just about anything.
If you have medium to high end clothing then Poshmark is your best option. They specialize in gently used but higher end clothing. (Tip: SavingFreak.com readers get a free $10 Poshmark credit when they sign up and use the code “SAVINGFREAK”)
Paribus
Most retailers will price match for you if you buy an item in the store and then find a lower price within the time limit on their return policy.
But how do you know when there is a lower price without scouring the Internet for hours?
Enter Paribus. Paribus scans your e-mail for purchases and does searches to see if the retailer owes you a refund.
If you do a ton of online shopping, Paribus might be able to help you make $200 today. If nothing else, I signed up just so I don’t keep missing out on getting my money back.
Sign Up Bonuses
There are many programs that online, that will entice you with a sign up bonus.
It is some of the easiest money you can make. A few of my favorites are:
Ibotta offers a $20 welcome bonus when you download their app and redeem a coupon. This can be done by selecting any of the coupons on the app, buying the item in a store, and uploading the receipt.
Webull
Webull will give you two free shares of stock when you sign up for a brokerage account and make a deposit. These stocks can be valued for anywhere between $2.50 and $1400 dollars, with one being guaranteed to be at least $12.
MyPoints
MyPoints is a get paid to program. This means they pay you money to read emails, watch videos, shop, and several other activities.
Right now, MyPoints will pay you a $10 when you sign up and you earn enough points to qualify.
Sell Your Data
We are all giving our data away for free every day. Facebook, Google, Apple, and many more take our data and use it to make money.
Nielsen Computer and Mobile Panel allows you to make money off your data by downloading their app and letting it run in the background on your phone.
They harvest your data and help companies do marketing research. In the future I think all companies should pay to use our data, but for now, Nielsen pays a decent rate for the effort you put in.
Fix Your Bills
I cannot count the number of times I have meant to end a subscription only to have it charge my card before I remember to cancel.
The Trimp app will check all your subscriptions and bills to see where they can help you save money.
You do not have to pay Trim a thing unless they save you money, and even then, it is only 25% of the first months savings on what they were able to save you on your negotiated bills. You might keep an extra $200 a month every month.
Online Rebates for Shopping
Retailers will pay website owners to send web traffic to their online store. This is usually in the
form of a percentage of whatever a person buys.
Instead of that money going into someone’s pocket, services like TopCashBack and Mr. Rebates will share a portion of that commission with their users.
These rebate sites have thousands of different retailers where you can click their link and get anywhere from 1% to 25% cashback. If you do a significant amount of online shopping, this can add up to $200 fast (it even works for buying groceries).
The top rebate sites we recommend are:
Focus Groups
There are a lot of posts on making an extra $200 that will recommend paid survey sites. These sites are great for a little side cash, but will not make you money super quickly.
Where they can come in handy is that using them can qualify you for focus groups on their platform. Focus group work online can pay anywhere from $20 to $100 for usually an hour or less of your time.
Three sites that offer paid focus groups are:
Deliver Stuff
Unlike delivering pizza, getting started doing delivery in the gig economy does not require getting hired and smelling like pepperoni.
Several apps allow you to delivery anything from food to packages. My two favorite right now are:
DoorDash
DoorDash has become one of the biggest players for getting restaurant food delivered to your home. As with all delivery apps you can work when you want, but will do better during meal times.
Postmates allows you to deliver just about anything. They are pitching themselves as a much faster alternative to the mail. I live in a fairly rural area, but could get food delivered from Subway.
In larger cities there will be many more ways to earn with Postmates.
Rideshare Driving
I just took a trip to New York and the rideshare industry has taken over.
My driver was at the airport in no time at all and had been driving a taxi for more than 20 years. He had switched to being an Uber driver because he could no longer make a living with the taxi service.
If you are looking to make a quick $200 you can get set up with Uber in less than 2 weeks and depending on the need in your area can easily make that much money in a short period of time.
Rent Out a Room
The sharing economy has become amazingly popular and, depending on where you live, you can really tap into that economy.
It used to be to get involved with renting out a room you didn’t have many options for screening, but Airbnb.com allows you to screen your guests by filtering who can rent your room by the guest ratings each guest receives from other Airbnb hosts.
If you live in a highly desirable area you could make thousands of dollars, not just the $200 we are looking for in this article.
Donate Plasma
You may feel like a broke college student, but you can make between $40 and $60 for each time you go to donate plasma.
On top of that, unlike donating blood, you can sell your plasma one or two time a week. So you can easily make your $200 fast.
Odd Jobs
If I was looking to make 200 dollars in one day this is the one I would probably turn to. I am pretty good at plumbing and am also good at doing electrical and computer work.
That being the case I would put the word out to friends and family that I am looking to do some side work to get to my goal and make a list of what I am able to help with.
Then let those friends and family hire you or refer you to other friends to get to $200 in one day.
If you are short of friends and family in the area, then check out Mechanical Turk. It’s a service by Amazon where you can sell your skills out to other people in your area.
Deliver Pizza
Getting signed up as a person delivering pizza only take a few days and it is a job that always seems to be in demand.
If you have a car that gets good mileage the you can expect to get in the $11-$15 per hour range, depending on where you will be delivering and the generosity of the tippers.
Trade In Electronics
If you have old smart phones or computers lying around you can frequently get decent cash back for those item.
You can typically get the best prices for your old tech at Gazelle.com. They will accept smartphones, tablets, iPads, and macbooks.
If you are looking to trade something outside of that category, BestBuy has the widest trade in program, but they only reward you with credit in their stores instead of cash.
Sell Books
I have made a few good deals by selling books through various book buying platforms.
What they do is sell used books to people looking for specific editions. Usually text books fetch the best prices, but you can check to see if any of your current collection are worth giving up.
Also, check your local thrift stores to see if people have turned in any books that can be resold for a tidy profit.
Repair and Resell
Salvaging, repairing or updating used items can fetch you big bucks. I have seen some people who are great at purchasing wedding and prom dresses at thrift stores, cleaning them up or updating them and then selling them at consignment shops.
Other options are broken down appliances (which you can many times get free on craigslist) and furniture.
There are a lot of ways to recycle items and then make a profit on the sale.
Pick up Some Overtime
If you have an hourly job already, ask your manager if there is any overtime available.
With the job market getting tight, employers are much more likely to allow people to pick up extra hour and earn time and a half. Even if you are only making minimum wage, you would need to pick up less than 20 hours of OT to get to your goal.
Be a Temp
Temp services are always looking for people to fill in for work. Go to a few local temp agencies and see if they have any work for people during hours that you are not working your current job.
Return some Stuff
If you have made any purchases in the last 30 days that are not necessities, you can return those items for cash back in your pocket.
Some store are even more forgiving and will give you up to 45 days. Go through your debit card and see if there is anything you can return and get some of that cash back.
Garage Sale
We just did a community wide garage sale and my family participates each year, trying to get rid of any accumulation of extra stuff.
My wife would have made over $50 if she hadn’t spent more than that buying other people’s stuff, but you get the picture. You can make more than 25% of your $200 goal with this idea.
Credit Card Bonuses
If you have good credit, credit card companies will offer you big bonuses to spend a certain amount of money with them in the first few months of owning the card. This can be anywhere from $100 to $500.
It may come in the form of cash, as a credit on your account or as
Sell Scrap Metal
Scrap metal prices fluctuate greatly so your best bet is to find a local company that will buy your scrap and get updates. If you have access to metals like copper or aluminum they can get you a decent price.
If you have scrap precious metals then you are better off looking online for precious metals buyer.
Babysit
I never thought about babysitting as a teenager. I had friends who did and always talked about how well they were doing.
It wasn’t until I became and adult and started paying babysitters that I realized how much a sitter can make. A few nights of baby sitting and you can easily hit your 200 dollar goal.
Stock Investing
I am not a big fan of day trading or short term trades, but if you are willing to do the research, there is money to be made in stock trading.
You’re best bet will be to go with a brokerage that charges no fees for stock trades. Ally Invest is a great option for zero fees on
Save Money
Cutting your budget can be faster and more effective than trying to find new ways to make money.
If you do not currently have a monthly budget then I encourage to put all your spending down on paper or in a spreadsheet. Anyone who does this for the first time is going to find a way to pull $200 from at least one area they are overspending.
Final Thoughts on How to Make 200 Dollars in One Day
200 dollars is not that difficult of a number to come up with in a short period of time.
With a little effort and pushing through with an idea that works for you, you can earn your way to financial stability.
